Re-examining the \u201cManhaj of the Verses\u201d in \u02bfAbaq\u0101t al-Anw\u0101r<\/strong><\/p>\n

Among the different sections of \u02bfAbaq\u0101t al-Anw\u0101r, its \u201cFirst Manhaj\u201d holds a fundamental position in explaining the question of Imamate. This section, commonly known by the title \u201cVerses,\u201d may at first appear to be devoted solely to examining the verses that indicate Imamate; however, a more careful study of the structure of \u02bfAbaq\u0101t shows that this understanding is incomplete and, to some extent, incorrect.<\/p>\n

The Actual Structure of the First Manhaj<\/strong><\/p>\n

Allamah M\u012br \u1e24\u0101mid \u1e24usayn Lucknaw\u012b organized the First Manhaj of \u02bfAbaq\u0101t into two distinct sections:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. First section: Theological discussions on Imamate.<\/strong> In this section, the foundations and arguments put forward among Sunnis for establishing the Caliphate are examined and criticized under several principal headings. This section is, in fact, a theoretical introduction to entering the discussion of Imamate and presents a general framework of the theological dispute concerning Imamate.<\/li>\n
  2. Second section: Examination of the verses of Imamate.<\/strong> Subsequently, the Allamah turns to the verses that were disputed by \u02bfAbd al-\u02bfAz\u012bz Dehlaw\u012b in the seventh chapter of Tu\u1e25fat Ithn\u0101 \u02bfAshariyyah. In this section, the verses indicating the Imamate of Am\u012br al-Mu\u02bemin\u012bn \u02bfAl\u012b (peace be upon him) are examined in detail in terms of the authenticity of the reports concerning the circumstances of revelation and their indication, and the objections raised concerning them are answered.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Correcting a Common Assumption<\/strong><\/p>\n

    In some accounts, it has been stated that the First Manhaj of \u02bfAbaq\u0101t is entirely devoted to the verses of Imamate and that the division of \u02bfAbaq\u0101t into the two Manhajs of Verses and Hadiths was influenced by the structure of the book Tu\u1e25fat Ithn\u0101 \u02bfAshariyyah. However, a direct study of the work shows that the First Manhaj extends beyond the verses, and a considerable part of it is devoted to theological discussions and criticism of the foundations of the Caliphate. Therefore, an accurate understanding of this Manhaj is fundamentally necessary for understanding the argumentative methodology of the Allamah in \u02bfAbaq\u0101t.<\/p>\n

    The Place of the \u201cVerses\u201d within the Overall \u02bfAbaq\u0101t Project<\/strong><\/p>\n

    The section on the verses is, in fact, the connecting link between the theoretical discussions of Imamate and the transmitted arguments presented in the Second Manhaj. In this section, the Allamah first explains the theoretical framework, then turns to the Qur\u2019anic texts, and finally, in the Second Manhaj, expands the hadith-based arguments. This continuity demonstrates the systematic design of \u02bfAbaq\u0101t in explaining the question of Imamate.<\/p>\n

    Revival and Publication<\/strong><\/p>\n

    Despite the importance of this section, the \u201cFirst Manhaj\u201d of \u02bfAbaq\u0101t had not, until recent years, been independently available to researchers. In the project to revive the works of Allamah M\u012br \u1e24\u0101mid \u1e24usayn, the \u201cVerses\u201d section of this work has been published through the collection of the available manuscripts and new research. This undertaking represents an important step toward re-examining the complete structure of \u02bfAbaq\u0101t and making it accessible to contemporary researchers.<\/p>\n

    The \u201cVerses\u201d section in \u02bfAbaq\u0101t al-Anw\u0101r is not merely a collection of interpretations of verses, but rather part of a comprehensive theological project in which the question of Imamate is examined through the connection between theoretical foundations, Qur\u2019anic texts, and transmitted arguments.
