Revival of the enduring work of Allamah Mir Hamid Husayn after 120 years

At the beginning of this meeting, which was held with the presence of the officials of the International Foundation of Imamate, the president of the foundation, Hujjat-ul-Islam wal-Muslimeen Dr. Sobhani, presented a report on the process of reviving the book “Abaqat al-Anwar.” This valuable work, which was written in critique of the book “Tuhfa Ithna Ashari” by Shah Abdul Aziz Dehlavi, has been published in 37 volumes after about 120 years through the efforts of the researchers of the International Foundation of Imamate.

He considered one of the important achievements of this scientific project to be the training of dozens of young and specialized researchers in the field of Imamate studies (Imamat-pazhuhi), in which about 40 to 50 young seminary student researchers have been trained in this collection and have become familiar with the methodology of Allamah Mir Hamid Husayn (may he rest in peace).

The Research Institute of Imamate is also currently compiling a five-to-six-volume series on the methodology of Allamah Mir Hamid Husayn in hadith validation, jurisprudence of hadith (fiqh al-hadith), critique and fabrication of hadith, exegesis (tafsir), history, and responding to doubts.

Lucknow School; the precious heritage of Shiism in India

In this meeting, the role of the Lucknow scientific school in northern India, led by Syed Dildar Ali Hindi (Ghufran-Ma’ab) and his children and students, was mentioned. This scientific school for 150 years trained great Mujtahids and theologians (mutakallimin) and left behind valuable works in the fields of jurisprudence (fiqh), principles (usul), and theology (kalam).

Appreciation for the efforts made

After the presentation of the detailed report by Hujjat-ul-Islam wal-Muslimeen Dr. Sobhani regarding the revival of the precious book “Abaqat al-Anwar” and the training of a new generation of Imamate researchers, Ayatollah Ashrafi Shahroudi, while listening to this report, expressed his thanks and appreciation for the valuable efforts of the International Foundation of Imamate and the Research Institute of Imamate.

He considered these efforts an enduring and effective action in safeguarding the precious heritage of Shiism and promoting the pure thought of Imamate at the global level, and emphasized the continuation of this scientific path.

Researcher’s Introduction to the Revival of Hadith al-Wilayah in ʿAbaqāt al-Anwār

Hadith al-Wilayah is the third hadith that ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz al-Dihlawī addressed in Chapter Seven of the book Tuḥfah-yi Ithnā ʿAshariyyah. Since this hadith is one of the explicit texts proving the immediate succession and Imamate of Amīr al-Muʾminīn (peace be upon him), he found no alternative but to deny and invalidate it.

A Brief Survey of the Ḥadīth of Ghadīr in ʿAbaqāt al‑Anwār

Despite the many discussions surrounding the Ḥadīth of Ghadīr throughout history, before the writing of ʿAbaqāt al‑Anwār one cannot find a work that has addressed all aspects of this ḥadīth in detail and responded to the various objections of the Sunnīs regarding its chain (isnād) and implication (dalāla). Indeed, the efforts of ʿAllāma Mīr Ḥāmid Ḥusayn al‑Hindī were not limited to responding to the objections of ʿAbd al‑ʿAzīz al‑Dehlawī; rather, by tracing the roots of the doubts, he used Dehlawī’s statements as a basis for presenting and critiquing the statements of earlier Sunnī scholars, leaving behind a comprehensive and solid work. May Allah have mercy upon him and grant him a good abode.

Notes

Re-examining the “Manhaj of the Verses” in ʿAbaqāt al-Anwār

Among the different sections of ʿAbaqāt al-Anwār, its “First Manhaj” holds a fundamental position in explaining the question of Imamate. This section, commonly known by the title “Verses,” may at first appear to be devoted solely to examining the verses that indicate Imamate; however, a more careful study of the structure of ʿAbaqāt shows that this understanding is incomplete and, to some extent, incorrect.
