At the beginning of this meeting, a report was presented on the process of reviving the valuable “Abaqat al-Anwar” collection. According to this report, the project of editing and reviving this great theological (Kalam) and hadith work, which has been on the secretariat’s agenda for years, has approached its final stages, and its complete set is ready for publication in 37 volumes.

Also, the activities performed for identifying and collecting the sources used by Allamah Mir Hamid Husayn, examining the manuscripts existing in Iran, Iraq, and India, organizing the images of the manuscripts, and forming a database of works related to the family of the author of Abaqat were among other axes of the report presented to Ayatollah Qa’ini.

The congress secretariat further presented a report on its research actions in the field of compiling the bio-bibliography (Shinakht-nameh/شناخت‌نامه) of Allamah Mir Hamid Husayn, extracting research axes, forming scientific files for the congress articles, holding scientific sessions in Iran and abroad, and also compiling works related to the scientific methodology of the author of Abaqat.

In this meeting, a part of the discussions was also dedicated to the status of manuscripts and the written heritage of Shiism in the Indian subcontinent. The members of the secretariat, referring to the valuable capacities of historical libraries in India, raised the existing concerns regarding the preservation and protection of these works.

Ayatollah Mohammadi Qa’ini also, while appreciating the efforts made in the path of reviving the works of Allamah Mir Hamid Husayn, considered these activities as a valuable service to the teachings of the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them) and the scientific heritage of Shiism.

Emphasizing the importance of Imamate topics and the necessity of the presence of learned researchers in this arena, he stressed the training of capable scientific forces to continue this path and utilizing the scientific capacities of Islamic seminaries (Hawzas) in reviving the doctrinal heritage of Shiism.

Ayatollah Qa’ini also, pointing to the importance of preserving the works and manuscripts of Shiism, counted the protection of this valuable heritage as among the serious needs of the Shiite world and wished divine success and confirmation for the organizers of the International Congress Commemorating Allamah Mir Hamid Husayn Lakhnavi.

Researcher’s Introduction to the Revival of Hadith al-Wilayah in ʿAbaqāt al-Anwār

Hadith al-Wilayah is the third hadith that ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz al-Dihlawī addressed in Chapter Seven of the book Tuḥfah-yi Ithnā ʿAshariyyah. Since this hadith is one of the explicit texts proving the immediate succession and Imamate of Amīr al-Muʾminīn (peace be upon him), he found no alternative but to deny and invalidate it.

A Brief Survey of the Ḥadīth of Ghadīr in ʿAbaqāt al‑Anwār

Despite the many discussions surrounding the Ḥadīth of Ghadīr throughout history, before the writing of ʿAbaqāt al‑Anwār one cannot find a work that has addressed all aspects of this ḥadīth in detail and responded to the various objections of the Sunnīs regarding its chain (isnād) and implication (dalāla). Indeed, the efforts of ʿAllāma Mīr Ḥāmid Ḥusayn al‑Hindī were not limited to responding to the objections of ʿAbd al‑ʿAzīz al‑Dehlawī; rather, by tracing the roots of the doubts, he used Dehlawī’s statements as a basis for presenting and critiquing the statements of earlier Sunnī scholars, leaving behind a comprehensive and solid work. May Allah have mercy upon him and grant him a good abode.

Notes

Re-examining the “Manhaj of the Verses” in ʿAbaqāt al-Anwār

Among the different sections of ʿAbaqāt al-Anwār, its “First Manhaj” holds a fundamental position in explaining the question of Imamate. This section, commonly known by the title “Verses,” may at first appear to be devoted solely to examining the verses that indicate Imamate; however, a more careful study of the structure of ʿAbaqāt shows that this understanding is incomplete and, to some extent, incorrect.
