Pre-congress of the International Commemoration of Allameh Mir Hamed Hossein Lakhnavi Held in Isfahan

This ceremony, titled “Recognition and Commemoration of the Author of Abaqat,” was held with the participation of institutions such as the International Imamate Foundation, the Institute of Higher Education of the Isfahan Seminary, and the Secretariat of the International Congress of Allameh Mir Hamed Hossein Lakhnavi in the Sheikh al-Rais Ibn Sina Convention Hall.

Detailed Programs: The ceremony was held in two sessions: morning and afternoon. The morning session began with the recitation of the Holy Quran, followed by Hujjat al-Islam Dr. Hadizadeh, Director of the Institute of Higher Education of the Isfahan Seminary, welcoming the guests and emphasizing the importance of commemorating “border-guarding” scientific figures like Allameh Mir Hamed Hossein in defending the realm of Shiism. Subsequently, the message of Grand Ayatollah Mazahiri, head of the Isfahan Seminary, was read, stressing the greatness of Lakhnavi’s work and the necessity of reviving his scientific heritage, especially the noble book “Abaqat al-Anwar.”

Then, a scientific roundtable titled “Reviving the Works of Allameh Mir Hamed Hossein” was formed with the presence of Hujjat al-Islams Kazemi, Esfandiari, and Shujaat Hossein. In this roundtable, a comprehensive report on the secretariat’s activities was presented, including the collection and revival of manuscripts, cataloging and restoration of the Nasiriyah Library in Lucknow, compiling Allameh’s biography, receiving and evaluating scientific papers, and holding educational courses on the Lucknow school of theology. It was also announced that 18 volumes of the massive “Abaqat al-Anwar” series have been published in a researched format, with 12 more volumes in the process of publication.

Following the roundtable, Ayatollah Sheikh Najmuddin Tabasi delivered an extensive speech on the “Scientific Characterization (Jurisprudential and Theological) of Allameh Mir Hamed Hossein.” Referring to the greatness of Allameh’s work, he described him as a mujtahid jurist and a meticulous traditionalist (muhaddith) who was an expert in jurisprudence and principles (usul) in addition to his mastery of theology (kalam). Quoting Shia greats such as Mirza Shirazi, Mirza Nuri, and Sayyid Mohsin Amin, who called Allameh the “Chief of the Sect,” “Helper of the Nation,” and “Greatest Shia Theologian,” he emphasized his unique position in the history of theology.

Summary and Outlook: This pre-congress was a scientific and magnificent prelude to the main international congress, which will be held in the near future. The ceremony concluded with an invitation for attendees to visit the book exhibition and purchase works related to Allameh and the Imamate Foundation with special discounts.

Re-examining the “Manhaj of the Verses” in ʿAbaqāt al-Anwār

Among the different sections of ʿAbaqāt al-Anwār, its “First Manhaj” holds a fundamental position in explaining the question of Imamate. This section, commonly known by the title “Verses,” may at first appear to be devoted solely to examining the verses that indicate Imamate; however, a more careful study of the structure of ʿAbaqāt shows that this understanding is incomplete and, to some extent, incorrect.

Notes

Re-examining “Hadith al-Ghadir” in ʿAbaqāt al-Anwār

Among the textual proofs related to the question of Imamate, Hadith al-Ghadir holds a special position. This hadith, which has been transmitted with the well-known wording, “Whoever I am his mawla, then this ʿAlī is his mawla,” is among the traditions that have received extensive attention from Muslim scholars throughout history. However, a comprehensive and methodical examination of this hadith requires extensive investigation across various sources and a precise analysis of both its chain of transmission and its indication.

Notes

Re-examining “Hadith al-Wilayah” in ʿAbaqāt al-Anwār

The examination of “Hadith al-Wilayah” in ʿAbaqāt al-Anwār is a clear example of Allamah Mīr Ḥāmid Ḥusayn’s scholarly methodology; a methodology in which extensive investigation, precise analysis of chains of transmission, and multilayered analysis of indication are brought together.
